Letter from the President

Greetings from Jennifer O’Loughlin-Brooks, Psi Beta President

As I embark on my first year as Psi Beta’s National President, I remain impressed by the strength of our organization. Following in the footsteps of past presidents before me, I feel privileged to be serving alongside many passionate and committed National Council members.

My journey in Psi Beta National Honor Society began twenty-two years ago as an advisor to my college chapter and led eventually to my role as the Southwestern Regional Vice-President. Drawing upon these experiences, I hope to serve you by embodying our mission wholeheartedly and exploring the promise that a new year brings.

Speaking of a new year, we most recently celebrated our 35th anniversary as an organization and the excitement level for Psi Beta has never been higher! I want to sincerely thank chapter members and advisors around the country for building such enthusiasm and for promoting the mission of Psi Beta by personally demonstrating dedication to scholarship, leadership, research, and community service.

At the APA convention in Washington D.C., this momentum guided our annual strategic planning as a National Council. We set goals to inspire more growth–from our individual members to long-term sustainable partnerships. In order accomplish this, we have been coordinating task forces to foster areas including advisor support, membership development, and cultivation of student scholarships, alumni outreach, and research opportunities.

As your chapters are actively preparing for the new academic year, don’t forget to take advantage of the many avenues for engagement listed on the Psi Beta national website. Highlighted is our National Research Project which explored the relationship between academic self-regulation, GRIT, happiness, gratitude, and appreciation. This research initiative has led to national participation and student presentations at the local, regional, and national level.

I also encourage you to apply for any of the six types of awards/scholarships offered through Psi Beta which acknowledge chapters, advisors and individual members for their contributions to the Mission of Psi Beta. There are awards for College Life, Collaboration, Community Service, Chapter Excellence, and Faculty Advisor. Additionally, there are several scholarships available for research paper excellence.

Finally, don’t forget to check out our updated online store for new merchandise. Along with publicity materials and graduation regalia, the winning t-shirt from the spring t-shirt contest will be available for purchase, so don’t miss out on that!

Please contact your regional vice-president or our national office if you have any questions. I am looking forward to a productive year!

With Great Enthusiasm,

Jennifer L. O’Loughlin-Brooks, M.S.
